It seems to be a dark period for the realm of fitness and bodybuilding. Continuing the string of deaths and tragedies, just days after the passing away of bodybuilding legend Lisa Lyon, another news has recently managed to shock the lifting community.

According to an Instagram post uploaded by IFBB Pro Milos Sarcev, Classic Physique athlete Neil Currey has passed away at the age of 34 years old. Milos shared a deep bond with Neil, being his coach earlier. Sharing a glimpse of their time together, Sarcev, along with the bodybuilding community, expressed their grief over the situation.

Currey was still a newbie to the world of pro bodybuilding, competing at the IFBB level since 2019. Neil Curry, born and raised in the UK, started weightlifting at a young age, drawing inspiration from legendary figures in the sport such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Flex Wheeler, and Phil Heath. After making tremendous progress since the very beginning, he competed for the first time at the Mr. Olympia in 2022 where he bagged the 16th position in the Classic Physique category. This same year, he also won his first and last competition, which was the New York Pro. Serbian bodybuilding veteran Milos Sarcev, who was his coach earlier, revealed the death of Neil through an Instagram post. This was later confirmed by Dave Palumbo as well.

In an Instagram post uploaded by Generation Iron disclosing the same, the caption read, “Classic Physique Olympian Neil Currey has passed away at 34 years old. GI sends condolences to family and friends during this time.” Coming across this news, the lifting community could not resist reacting to their feelings about this unfortunate event.

May the earth bless his resting place and may we remember him for his positive impact, leaving negative assumptions behind,” while another comment read, “People need to wake up an realise mental health ain’t no joke an it’s more important then physical health… RIP.”

Another person reacted to the sad news by stating, “poor dude died from taking his own life, rest in peace,” while a fan rightfully pointed out, “For all the uneducated people in this thread, there is a huge list of people who did not take steroids who have committed suicide. Let’s not push some agenda here in the midst of tragedy.” Many people expressed their disbelief over the situation, followed by praying for his soul. A comment read, “Rest in peace brother.”
