Arnold Schwarzenegger started his fitness newsletter on January 1 of this year. In his quest to spread the word about fitness to as many people as possible, Arnie returned to Reddit. The seven-time Mr. Olympia returned to Reddit after long hiatus but has been active since. While the bodybuilding legend often does AMAs on Reddit, earlier, the social media platform caught up with the 75-year-old.

Earlier today, the official YouTube channel of Reddit uploaded a video featuring the Governator. In the video titled Arnold Schwarzenegger AMA, the former bodybuilding champion answered questions and even explained the history behind rare images. However, one photograph had an interesting and “crazy” history behind it.

Learning how to promote his brand

After coming to America, the Austrian Oak knew he had to promote himself and stand out from the crowd of bodybuilders. While he certainly had a superior physique compared to many bodybuilders, young Arnold knew he had to create his brand. In the Reddit AMA video, Arnie explained where he had learned such a lesson.

In the video, the 75-year-old came across an image posted by a Reddit user. In the photograph, the bodybuilder walked on the streets of Munich, almost naked, while people stared. “Arnold walking through Munich in swimming trunks in order to promote his own gym in 1967,” read the caption. 

The seven-time Mr. Olympia said the skills he had a knack for “marketing and publicity” since he was a youth. The bodybuilding icon revealed the gym business in Munich was very competitive in the 60s, so he walked around in his “posing trunks at a construction site in freezing cold weather.” What better to promote your gym than to let the young bodybuilding prodigy flaunt his figure?

“It created such a sensation… People thought that I was totally crazy. They called journalists and photographers that came, then took those pictures,” explained Arnie. The stunt proved to be quite successful; his gym saw a sudden influx of members. However, if you thought Arnie wouldn’t do something crazy at 75 to promote a project, prepare to be surprised.

Arnold Schwarzenegger pranked his cast members

If a young Schwarzenegger was ready to walk the freezing Munich street in a posing trunk, then 75-year-old Schwarzenegger was ready to wear a plant suit. On June 4, Netflix released a promo for FUBAR. However, in the promo, Schwarzenegger put on a suit covered with leaves to prank the cast of FUBAR during their interview.

As the actors sat down for their interview, Schwarzenegger hid behind them, disguising himself as one of the three huge bushes. In the middle of the interview, the Terminator actor screamed, startling the other actors and revealing himself. Similarly, a few years ago, Arnie had dressed up as the Terminator, replaced his wax statue at Madame Tussauds (Hollywood), and pranked people who approached him thinking he was a wax figurine.
