A recent video of Jay Cutler was shared by one of his YouTube fan pages @JayCutlerTV. In the video, he was seen talking about all the methods he applied that made him win the title of Mr. Olympia four times. As the video gradually progressed while he was doing an intensive session of leg workout, he spoke which regime worked the best for him.

The 50 YO bodybuilding beast said that he applies the pyramid method on almost all his exercise, which does wonders for him. Now, the pyramid method of training is the one where you either start with a heavy weight, and then gradually decrease the weight, increasing the reps or it is the vice versa.

However, as he talks about it he mentions how people often ask him why he never applied Mike Mentzer’s method. To that, he replied, “When I had the progress I had, and you know yeah, why would I change right?” Mike Mentzer’s method is completely opposite to what the pyramid philosophy states and that is why Cutler never had the urge to implement it.

Mike Mentzer’s philosophy of heavy duty

Mike Mentzer’s training philosophy that was called the Heavy Duty Training revolutionized the workout regimes during the golden days of bodybuilding. He took up the High-intensity Training philosophy that was founded by Arthur Jones and blended a little edge with it and created a radical system of his own.

He called it Heavy duty. In the Heavy Duty method of training, the number of repetitions in the sets gradually diminished and the weights got heavier as they approached the final sets, which made them extremely difficult. The philosophy was founded by him over four decades ago, yet it still has a miraculous impact on weight training.
