Bodybuilder turned scholar, Paul Baxendale has been training athletes for more than 40 years, whilst also pursuing his philanthropist objectives. Now serving as a full-time scholar, the former athlete recently shared expert advice on the use of diuretics, while taking the instance of six-time Mr. Olympia, Dorian Yates.?

Baxendale shed light on the various phases of the champion?s career by means of a post on Instagram, starting from an all-clean competitor to using diuretics that affected Yates’ performance and health. The academician did so, to assert the impact of the bodybuilding drug on all athletes, shredded or not.?

Initially describing Yates?s amateur career, the 57-year-old athlete shared that the icon was already gaining recognition for his work and was ?renowned for his incredible conditioning.? However, at the time, he was naturally lean which changed over the years. Even after applying all the ways available in those times, to attain his finest form, the English athlete wasn?t satisfied with his physique.

As per Baxendale?s post on Instagram, the caption read, “In ’86 at the British finals, he experimented with a diuretic, Diazide, to ensure he was as dry as possible.? This resulted in a health hazard, as Yates got drier and drier after that. The decrease in sodium levels and rise of potassium in his body gave him intense cramps in his left pec muscles, which were almost visible to the judges.?

?His legs would cramp beginning in his quad and then hitting his hamstrings, a lesson he learned from very quickly!? the caption noted. Even though the bodybuilder had been open about his diuretic usage, Baxendale asserted that he didn?t need it at all, given his iconic physique. The philanthropist successfully aligned Yates? career to spread his message to stand against diuretics.?

As per the elaborate caption, the former athlete pointed out that when the 61-year-old later competed at the 1996 Mr. Olympia, bodybuilding drugs were banned in the sport. Despite that, Yates ended up winning the competition without the help of the drugs. ?still looked grainy dry and freaky shredded!? he wrote.?

Baxendale mindfully shared that if any athlete feels that they need diuretics to appear shredded or simply because they might be holding a lot of water, then it means a lack of preparation. ?they simply didn’t prepare properly or early enough,? the former pro noted. Furthermore, he warned, “it’s the one class of Bodybuilding drug you don’t mess with.” He emphasized?that every athlete must refrain from it, while hinting at the many examples to confirm this fact. Whereas some are unfortunately no longer here to say anything at all.?
