The Cuban bodybuilder has been reigned the realms of bodybuilding ever since the prime days of his career and is still regarded as one of the best bodybuilders in the entire sphere of the sport. He solidified his position and became an unparalleled force by defeating the legendary athlete Arnold Schwarzenegger at Mr. Olympia.
Sergio Oliva, also known as “The Myth” in the fitness community, has named his son after him, and Oliva Jr. has truly kept up with the legacy of his dad. However, recent feats from his training regime left Tom Platz in utter disbelief.

One of the fan pages of the bodybuilding community, @FitFactor, recently took to their official YouTube channel and shared a resurfaced video of Tom Platz that revealed snippets from an interview. Here, he was talking about training Sergio Oliva Jr. He began by saying that Sergio Jr. was squatting and stopped at 15 reps while Platz was training him for the Arnold Classic.
When Tom Platz asked him why he stopped at just 15 reps, he said that he barely goes beyond that. To this, Platz replied, “Are you kidding me? You know you look like this and that’s the way you train? That’s your mentality. Oh my god, you know. Your dad would kill me.”
He goes on reminiscing about the time he saw the infamous bodybuilder being held by his father at the 1984 Mr. Olympia, like a trophy. He further went on to add, “We’ve got to do more than 15 reps, but Sergio backed off”. It was after he got better conditioned that he tried out what Tom Platz had asked him to do. Well, this was not the first time Sergio Oliva Jr. came under the influence of Tom Platz. The professional coach trained him for the 2017 Mr. Olympia as well!
