However, a recent Instagram post reported that the old limit has been challenged with a much lower number.?

The usual 10,000-step count is sworn by several fitness enthusiasts, trying their best to accomplish it on a daily basis. While achieving the target is clearly not easy, the findings of a new research study might make enthusiasts a bit lenient on themselves. On the other hand, these revelations infuriated quite many users, as they criticized the research amid rising cases of obesity.?

Recommended step count reduced to less than half

As per the post shared by Time Magazine on Instagram, it was revealed that a new research review published by the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology has suggested that 4,000 steps per day might be sufficient to increase the longevity of life. While the stipulated step count for an active lifestyle was 10,000 steps per day, quite a task to achieve, it seems to have become easier now, thanks to the study.?

However, it was also noted in the caption that the findings should not discourage people from settling for less and restricting themselves from taking longer walks. The researchers also found that greater movement is way better and every additional 1,000 steps per day correlate to a 15% reduced risk of premature death.?

In contrast, a comprehensive study on the matter suggested while workouts are crucial for health, it does not need to be ?gruelling or lengthy? all the time for better health benefits. The fitness community was not convinced with the findings and chipped in their critical insights and concerns in the comments.?

In less than 2 days, the post gathered an array of comments from users, mocking and criticizing the research?s claims. One wrote, “Walking and weight lifting. You need both as you get older to prevent muscle and bone density loss.? Whereas another boldly noted, ?BS! Obesity drug advertisement. Our bodies were made for movement. and ?science? is like; do less.?? A comment criticized the findings, and added, 10000 steps throughout the day shouldn’t be considered “gruelling or lengthy”

Another comment on the matter claimed, ?I?ll just keep working out, eating right and moving way more than that thank you very much.? Similarly, a?concerned user highlighted, “75% of America is overweight?and ?science? is like; do less.”?
