Training in the early sixties is in itself a strenuous goal for many. But Monica Bousquet went ahead to compete in her first-ever bodybuilding competition at 61. Unlike many, Bousquet did not take to fitness early and had to go through the mental agony of trying out different ways to maintain her weight. She underwent breast surgery and abs surgery in 2004, but unfortunately gained all the weight back. “The phrase “there is no victory without a fight” has always been present in my life,” Bousquet confessed in her recent post.

At 53, life posed another problem for her, but this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. She was diagnosed with chondromalacia in her knees, and her physician asked her to hit the gym. That is when she started progressing in her fitness journey. “I learned from an early age that nothing is easy,” she wrote in her post.
