The world of bodybuilding is tough enough to survive for many. Competitive bodybuilders always try to outdo each other in terms of mass, muscle, and a shapely physique. However, the same world comes together in unison when a bodybuilder suffers from something unrelated to the sport. When Romanian bodybuilder Catalin Stefanescu died recently after drowning in a lake, not only were people mourning, but some were enraged at other people’s insensitive remarks at the same time.

Generation Iron came upon this unfortunate news and shared it on social media. They were paying tribute to the late bodybuilder and sending prayers to the bereaved. But people in the comments, while some were respectful, others weren’t. And this infuriated the bodybuilder’s fans.

The devastating death of a bodybuilding giant leaves questions all around

An Instagram post by Generation Iron went, “Romanian bodybuilding champion Catalin Stefanescu passed away at 30 years old after drowning in a shallow lake while on a fishing trip. GI sends condolence to family and friends during this time.” His death, besides being sad and harrowing, is also mysterious in nature.

Stefanescu was found motionless and submerged in water in a lake that’s only 3 feet deep in Dambovita, Romania. However, it was only a matter of minutes when his friend, with whom he went fishing, stepped away from the site. When he returned, Stefanescu drowned in the lake. How it happened and in what manner exactly is still not known to anyone. The authorities are conducting due research on the matter.

A bodybuilding great who won the National Fitness and Bodybuilding Championship in Romania in the 80 kg category, Stefanescu didn’t deserve a predicament like this. Unfortunately, this didn’t stop some people from making insensitive remarks about him due to speculation regarding the nature of his death.

While some fans were insensitive, others were devoted fans of the bodybuilder

Since Stefanescu is a bodybuilder, the immediate thought behind his death goes toward substance abuse for some people. These people are well into speculation without much proof, and that was anger-inducing for his fans. Here’s how some of the enraged fans of Stefanescu defended him from haters:

“Always dumb comments. Not even an ounce of respect for the dead”, wrote someone who was flabbergasted at the level of insult towards someone who passed away.“It’s sad and very disrespectful how strangers start making jokes about a person’s death…” wrote someone who also couldn’t believe the blatant and casual disrespect passed around about Stefanescu. “And ppl are still gonna associate his death with steroids,” wrote someone almost in a frustrated tone.

“Hey look at all the experts on here thinking they are doctors and/or coroners…..you don’t know anything”, wrote someone who made a fair observation and presented it in a sarcastic manner possible. It was justified by his anger toward them. “Ppl here commenting for fun should be removed!! Rip” wrote someone who was clearly irritated by the genuine lack of respect towards Setfanescu and wanted strict action even on Instagram.

It is without doubt that Stefanescu’s death struck a nerve with so many people. He took part in shows over 180cm and was revered in Romania after his win at the National Championships. As far as his death is concerned, the police have released a statement, but nothing is confirmed about the reason or motive behind it, if any. The fact that this news comes just days after the death of Joesthetics makes the bodybuilding world more vulnerable and heartbroken.
