Jay Cutler and Ronnie Coleman have been the best rivals and friends for more than a decade in the bodybuilding world. Ronnie Coleman was an 8-time Mr. Olympia winner and lifted extremely heavy weights while Jay Cutler was a 4-time Mr. Olympia winner lifting not-so-heavy weights. Yet both of them had similar physiques which are extremely enviable.

Jay Cutler did not like lifting weights as heavy as his opponent and friend, and he stated his reason recently on an Instagram video.

In the video, Cutler revealed that he was never interested in lifting weights as heavy as Ronnie Coleman did because, at the end of the day, he only cared about how he looked on stage. Cutler said, “I don’t give a damn about how much weight I press. As long as I look like I can do a certain way that was our whole goal.” He explained that once a bodybuilder is on stage, no one asks them whether they lift heavy weights or not.

Cutler also said, “I just wanted to look like that guy so that’s really what my whole goal was.” He also declared, “Like you still wanna be strong like you probably meant like a bench press or whatever like. I don’t even get under a bench press anymore I use dumbbells or whatever else.”

All in all, he cares about the technique and not the amount of weight he is picking up. Cutler maintained his strict training and diet regime and never overlooked anything that could go wrong. He also mentioned how The King used to lift massive weights in the gym and trained his physique to win Mr. Olympia.

While talking to Eddie Hall, Cutler mentioned that Coleman trained quite heavily and with massive weights. He said, “He trained the same, like the same rest times, the speed, and the intensity even with that heavyweight.”

Cutler would generally squat 400lbs for 12 reps and Coleman would do 600lbs for the 12 reps. Coleman would also do all the reps with the same intensity and Cutler also stated that the first rep would be the same as the last rep for Coleman even with those heavy weights.
