The 2023 Olympia competition ended on Saturday night. After the bodybuilders posed and the judges compared them, Derek Lunsford was declared the winner. The competition came down to the wire with Hadi Choopan coming in second. On the other side, Samson Dauda, the ‘Nigerian Lion’, came in at third place.
Even though there were huge expectations from Dauda, with many wondering if he would become the second bodybuilder based out of the United Kingdom after Dorian Yates to lift the Sandow trophy, he couldn’t win the title. However, Dauda did not seem disappointed about this fact and took to his official Instagram to talk to his fans about his feelings.

Dave Palumbo questioned Sergio Oliva Jr “What do you think about Samson Dauda, what he need to do to win?” Sergio Oliva Jr. replied, “I mean that you’re asking the wrong guy.” Palumbo implored further and asked, “Why do you think he didn’t win?”
Sergio then shared his perspective, saying that in his opinion, Jay looked better at the Arnold Classic event. He explained that in any sport, when judges, who are humans, notice even a slight difference or deviation, it becomes challenging not to deduct points, especially in a high-level competition where everyone is closely observed.
