Arnold Schwarzenegger has finally broken his silence on the ongoing actors’ union strike. On July 14, the Screen Actors Guild—American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SG-AFTRA) went on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The actors union went on strike due to various labor disputes and failed contract negotiations. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) also joined the strike. However, the WGA strike ended on September 27 after reaching an agreement with the AMPTP.

Since July, countless actors and Hollywood personalities have shown solidarity for SAG-AFTRA. Several prominent actors, like Meryl Streep, Jeniffer Lawrence, Bryan Cranston, and others, have written letters to the AMPTP. Action cinema icon Arnold Schwarzenegger was among the few who made no comments on the situation. However, a New York Times interview changed that.

Arnold Schwarzenegger refused to get into the details

In a recent interview with the New York Times, reporter David Marchese asked the 76-year-old veteran actor about his take on the strike. “What do you think of the different sides’ positions on the issues?” asked the interviewer. However, the bodybuilding icon didn’t divulge the details of what he thought. “It’s more complicated than what they say,” said the FUBAR star. Schwarzenegger, who spoke about the impact of A.I., highlighted it again.

“A.I. is the thing that we are worried about, or Netflix is not really paying us residuals? It’s not that simple.” Schwarzenegger told the New York Times reporter. After spending decades associated with bodybuilding, showbiz, and politics, the 76-year-old has garnered immense experience in how things work in these fields. “When you get deeper into the weeds, you find out what it means,” he added.

“I don’t want to get into it. I have to stay neutral on all this stuff,” continued the bodybuilding icon. “But I can tell you there’s much more to it,” reiterated the Predator actor without divulging on the subject any further. However, while Arnie was reluctant to speak too much about the issue, he was more than willing to help actors.

For Schwarzenegger, actions speak louder than words

Schwarzenegger might have remained silent on the ongoing strike for months, but he played his part. The 76-year-old action cinema icon helped all the actors who were fighting for their rights. Instead of posting about it on the internet, Arnie joined at least ten other actors to donate money to the SAG-AFTRA foundation, which is helping the actors stay afloat.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dwayne Johnson, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Ryan Reynold, Blake Lively, and more donated a combined $10 million to the SAG-AFTRA foundation. Many other celebrities have donated more money. Schwarzenegger wanted to help the actors continue their fight, so he took a more direct route.
