Arnie left his home country in 1968 for the American Dream. The 7x Mr. Olympia eventually married the Kennedy Princess, Maria Shriver, in 1986 and became father to four kids with her. Schwarzenegger and Shriver are hands-on parents and were greatly involved in their children’s upbringing. The 76-year-old recently recounted how he managed to raise his two girls and two boys with the help of his now ex-wife, Maria Shriver, in a CBS Mornings interview.

The host asked Schwarzenegger, “Another tool is sell, sell, sell, along with being useful. How do you communicate that to your kids as a parent?” Replying to the question, Arnie admitted, “Raising kids is a much tougher job than being Mr. Universe, I can tell you that. I mean, it is wild! Especially when you have two daughters and sons and you deal with the boys, deal with the girls’ issues, and all of that stuff.

Appreciating Shriver’s role in parenting duties, Arnie said, “My wife was very good in being a great partner with raising the kids, and so together we did a good job in really giving them kind of the important messages.” “Teaching them the important messages that you got to go and educate yourself, you got to be passionate about things, you got to have a certain goal,” he added, revealing the lessons the ex-couple taught their children. Despite separating a decade ago, Shriver and Schwarzenegger co-parent their kids, for which the latter earlier demanded an Oscar.

The 67-year-old journalist and the bodybuilding icon were a happy couple for 25 years before parting ways after Schwarzenegger’s ex-marital affair with a housekeeper became public in 2011. Despite separating, Shriver and Arnold maintain a cordial bond and nurture their kids together. The 76-year-old once confessed, “Even though we had this drama, we did Easter together, Mother’s Day together, the Christmases together, all birthdays—everything together.”

The actor also demanded an Oscar for him and his ex-wife. “If there’s Oscars for how to handle divorce, Maria and I should get it for having the least amount of impact on the kids,” he said in an interview.
