While having a massively muscular physique is the epitome of strength and physical prowess when it comes to bodybuilding, it is often accompanied by its fair share of challenges. Beyond the aesthetically pleasing look that it gives your body, athletes who have significantly developed muscles face daily challenges like fitting into normal clothes or sometimes even perceived intimidation.

Ronnie Coleman, the 8X Mr. Olympia champion, who had gained massive muscles during his days of being a police officer was prey to such challenges. From having to get rid of certain cars because he could not fit into them, to having difficulty finding the perfect pair of clothes, he went through it all. The King of bodybuilding recently shared his unseen struggles of having a huge body.

Ronnie Coleman could never fit into normal clothes

A Bodybuilding fan page on YouTube, @musclemindmedia, recently shared an old video of Ronnie Coleman in an interview. In the video, he was seen talking about how he had grown a 22-inch arm during his initial days in the police department. That caused havoc for him to be able to fit into the uniform.

The King of bodybuilding disclosed, “Yeah even in the police department you know from day one my uniforms were tailored.” He went on to talk about how even when he would try normal clothes, it was not easy for him. He could only fit into the ones that were tailor-made specifically for him.

He said, “You know, I can’t go to the store and just try on a suit, you know, all that kind of stuff. Pick out a short that ain’t gonna happen.” However, nothing diminished his goal of becoming the best bodybuilder. Ronnie Coleman always stood out, be it because of his exceptionally massive physique or his training routine. While other bodybuilders either chose bodybuilding or powerlifting, to stand out in the crowd, the King created his routine of power building.

Ronnie Coleman highlighted the importance of weightlifting

Ronnie Coleman would not only focus on his reps and concentration but would also include intensive weightlifting into his routine, which is generally incorporated by powerlifters. He would stress the significance of weightlifting for proper bodybuilding. According to him, strength training was the reason why his muscles looked denser.

For him, successful training meant dividing his time equally between exercising and resting the muscles. He would go on doing multiple sets of deadlifts, bicep curls, shoulder presses, etc. Coleman’s primary goal was to work every muscle in the body and then rest. Muscles only grow when you are resting!  Ronnie Coleman, even after decades of retirement is still a source of inspiration for millions.
