When it comes to fitness and bodybuilding, there is no one right way to train. While a specific training regime might work for an individual, it won’t necessarily be optimum for others. And that mantra is exactly what helped four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler. It was purely through trial and error that Cutler understood what works best for him and dethroned ‘The King’ Ronnie Coleman.
Despite receiving backlash from fans and Coleman over the years for his cheat curls and poor form, Jay Cutler recently took to his Instagram to explain the logic behind his routine. Let’s take a look at what ‘The Comeback Kid’ has to say about his form.

Standing on the biggest stage of bodybuilding and winning four times is no easy feat. Talking along the same lines, Cutler stated in his latest Instagram video that despite people thinking he had poor form, what he did in his training clearly worked for him. “I just went through a lot of trial and error in my training…What I realized is everyone has to find their own style,” Cutler said.

Continuing further, he added, “I just focused on hitting muscle fibers and obviously had great results. So why fix what’s not broken?” By giving examples of legendary bodybuilders like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dorian Yates, ‘The Comeback Kid’ pointed out that every individual responds differently to training patterns.

Despite his heated rivalry with Ronnie Coleman for years and the latter being regarding as a bodybuilding bigwig and perhaps the best of all time, luck finally shined on Cutler when he lifted his first Sandow Trophy in 2006. Even after losing multiple times to Coleman, Jay continued to train the same way as he did and his efforts finally paid off. Cutler explains that while it looks like forced reps and cheat curls to many, he only focused on muscle hypertrophy in his training, and never trained for failure.

Admitting that ‘cheat curls’ worked wonders in his case, he shut down critics by expressing confidence in himself and his track record. “I know some people want to correct my form when they watch a lot of my videos and I think my track record proves itself by winning four Olympias,” he said.
