Four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler is among the greatest bodybuilders of all time. While he hasn’t won the most Olympia titles, Cutler is the only Mr. Olympia who avenged his loss to regain the title. However, while his accomplishments put him among the all-time greats, Cutler didn’t always enjoy the process. Despite the glory, during his prime, the 49-year-old didn’t enjoy every part of the life of an elite bodybuilder.
In the latest episode of Jay Walking, the former Mr. Olympia recalled his grueling diet and cardio sessions from his prime. Cutler spent millions on dieting throughout his long and exceptional bodybuilding career. At the time, he ate 140 egg white a day and brought an entire cow from the butcher. In an astonishing confession, the 49-year-old revealed how it really was while prepping for a contest.

During the Jay Walking episode, Cutler recalled something he had thought about the night before filming the video. The 49-year-old, who is transforming his physique for the Fit for 50 challenge, recalled training for a contest. “I thought ‘My life was so bad!'” the four-time Mr. Olympia said. During particularly hard preps, all Jay Cutler did was eat and work out.
“I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh! I gotta do all this cardio,’ and you know, when you get on a like a super strict diet?” recalled the bodybuilding legend. While the bodybuilding icon ate thousands of calories while bulking, before the contest, he went on grueling weight cuts to eliminate fat and expose the muscle.
“You’re like struggling and you’re starving and you’re like, ‘I just can’t wait for the show to be over,'” Jay Cutler said. In the past, the three-time Arnold Classic winner also opened up about eating out of necessity and not for taste. However, now that he is older, Cutler has realized the value of his struggle.

“‘Wow! What a fortunate position I’m in. What a job I got, right?’ Because you get paid to compete,” stated Cutler. He also realized that its the struggle he endured back then that got him where he is today.
More than a former Mr. Olympia
Jay Cutler is among the few bodybuilding whose influence goes far beyond the Mr. Olympia stage. From his early days, the Massachusetts native became the fan-favorite underdog. Besides being the only one to avenge a loss, Cutler’s epic rivalry with Coleman also contributed to his popularity. Even after stepping down from the Olympia stage, the bodybuilding legend retained those fans.
