While many praised her fitness transformation, many body positivity advocates spoke out against Adele. They said Adele conformed to traditional standards of perception of beauty.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, the singer opened up on the backlash.?“I’m not shocked or even phased by it because my body has been objectified my entire career,”?said the singer who faced criticism when she was overweight.?“Whether I’m too big. Am I too small?”?explained the Emmy winner.

However, the 53-year-old singer said she?“never looked up to anyone because of their body.”?While people admire their idol’s looks, Adele never subscribed to the idea. The singer said she didn’t like someone because their hair was a certain color, or if they had a similar fashion sense. It was the same when it came to weight. The singer said she didn’t admire an individual because they were slim or overweight.

“When you were heavier you were fine?”?asked Winfrey. The 35-year-old replied she had no issues with how she looked.?“I was and I was body positive then and I’m body positive now. But it’s not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies,”?said the Gloden Globe winner. The Grammy winner said she made changes to improve her health and not to conform to a standard. So, how did Adele lose so much weight?
