Even after finding almost unparalleled success in bodybuilding, and then in movies, Arnold Schwarzenegger felt the need to choose a 3rd career in 2003 in order to serve the public and make this world a better place to live. That was 20 years ago when he first became the governor of California and today he is a 75-year-old man far away from the governor’s chair. But his passion, drive, and commitment to doing better for this world, such as fighting for climate change, have remained the same. In a recent interview, Schwarzenegger noted the various things wrong with the current world political scenario and made an interesting comparison.
When Arnold Schwarzenegger talked to Laura Kuenssberg recently, she made an interesting comparison between the story of saving the world to a movie. Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, sarcastically said that it would instead be a TV series and that what the world leaders are doing cannot be contained in just a movie.

“If the story of trying to save the planet was a script or a movie, what scene are we in?” asked Laura Kuenssberg to Arnold Schwarzenegger, when he met the BBC Politics reporter in Vienna at the Austrian World Summit on 16th May 2023. Schwarzenegger, rather fascinated by the question, replied, “I think that there’s unlike anything else”, calling the effort to bring the attention of governments to climate change along with their response an interesting enough script. He also didn’t hesitate to call out his own motherland.
He continued, “Because… it involves stupidity, it involves greed, it involves politicians, which means it involves lies and exaggerations and promises, it involves you know death, it involves sickness, cancer, it involves money, it involves opportunities, it involves so many different things, it would be a hell of a movie… It should be done as a TV series”.
While the whole comparison is interesting, it is basically making a snarky joke at those world leaders or politicians who are making the attempt to save the world into a real-life drama.
He is still hopeful for a better future
Laura Kuenssberg then made the discussion more intense by repeating the question, “Where are we in that stage now?” Schwarzenegger, although aware that there are multiple issues that need to be resolved, still believes in the positive side of things. He acknowledged the fact that most people now are noticing the change in climate and believing in it. Schwarzenegger believes that with every passing day, an increased number of people are “recognizing the fact that we are in trouble”.

But he believes that there is still a long way to go, and a lot of people still require hard proof to be convinced that the world is changing, and if not acted promptly, this could get even worse. And many governments aren’t aiding the process, which is further prompting climate change activists to take to the streets and take undue measures of protest. While Schwarzenegger doesn’t believe such extreme measures are the way to go, he can still understand why they are angry.
