Despite the fact that many other bodybuilding championships have gone downhill, the grandeur of the Mr. Olympia championships has remained intact over the years. So much so that, even as times change, the Mr. Olympia remains the biggest competition in the sport, even after the advent of events like the Arnold Classic.

Marking a major landmark in the history of the Mr. Olympia, in February 2020, it was announced that Jake Wood would be buying out the franchise, with many fitness enthusiasts believing that this would do a lot of good for the sport. However, as per recent revelations, New York Yankees part-owner Patrick Bet-David revealed that he desired to buy out the show. But in what may come as a surprise, Bet-David also added how Hollywood actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would have been the perfect owner for the Mr. Olympia.

In one of the recent YouTube videos of the Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk Clips, the $200 Million worth business tycoon shared how he desired to buy the Mr. Olympia and completely change it. He began by saying how three years ago, he met the CEO of Mr. Olympia, three months before Jake Wood bought the franchise.

However, responding to The Rock also being involved in the race to buy the Mr. Olympia, Bet-David shared how he thought it should have been sold to Johnson, since he was capable of adding true value to the title with his immense popularity. “I think Mr. Olympia made a mistake by not selling it to the Rock. It would have been great for the Rock to buy Mr. Olympia for the brand,” he said. He also added that the bodybuilders would have preferred the former wrestler buying the event.

Further in the video, Patrick Bet-David talked about how he desired to completely flip the concept of the Olympia. Taking the example of how Chris Bumstead does not compete in the main event with the bigger guys, the entrepreneur suggested the use of data and AI to bring about a change in the way the event played out. He wished for the standards to change and the concept to no longer remain about who was the biggest.

He said, “What if we actually used data and symmetry and we put it on a system and who has the best symmetrical body?” Bet-David wanted to turn the show into something focused on the overall aesthetics like the Frank Zane and Arnold Schwarzenegger era rather than focusing on the bodybuilder’s size.

That being said, the Olympia finally ended up in the hands of Jake Wood. But do you think Bet-David’s changes would have helped the event? Let us know in the comments below.
