Katherine Schwarzenegger, the eldest child of Arnold Schwarzenegger has now shared an interesting fact on Instagram. The bodybuilding icon’s daughter shared a post that highlighted the results of a survey in the UK. The survey unveiled that parents in the UK don’t want an age restriction on their children using smartphones.
Katherine Schwarzenegger’s story highlighted the headline of the Independent article. “Majority of parents want ban on smartphones for children under 16,” read the title. “More than four in five parents believe smartphones are ‘harmful’ to young people, survey has found,” read the subheading. While the article was published on March 20, 2024, the 33-year-old shared Jonathan Haidt’s post on the article.
“Parents are fed up, and the tide is turning. Around 2010, we were techno-optimists,” wrote Haidt. However, “we hadn’t yet seen the addictive aspects of smartphones and social media on our children and teens,” added the social psychologist.

While the daughter of the former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, didn’t add any caption to her story, it’s safe to assume the mother of two shares a perspective similar to that of Haidt. Studies have also revealed the negative effects of smartphone addiction on children. A 2019 study highlighted several detrimental effects, like impaired social skills and academic performance, sleep disturbances, and mental health issues.
Smartphones are also a home to social media, which has its own set of detrimental mental health effects on adolescents and teens. Arnold Schwarzenegger has also repeatedly warned about smartphone and social media addiction in his newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club.
