Arnold Schwarzenegger and the rest of the cast are giving their everything in promoting their upcoming Netflix action-comedy series FUBAR. Recently, the seven-time Mr. Olympia sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss his upcoming show and future projects. Interviewer James Hibberd asked the bodybuilding legend about the status of the “in-development sequel,” to his $216.6 million 1988 hit.
However, The Terminator star didn’t have anything positive to say about the sequel’s fate. The legendary filmmaker who made the 1988 original passed away in 2022. While his four-time Academy Award-nominated son is more than capable of carrying the project forward, he had a different message for Arnie.

Legendary filmmaker Ivan Reitman, famous for creating the iconic Ghostbuster franchise, worked with Schwarzenegger in 1988. With Danny DeVito as the co-lead, Reitman made Twins. While the movie didn’t have glowing reviews from the critics, people loved it. The acting pair had great chemistry, which led to the film’s financial success.
Twins became such a classic that even decades later, Reitman wanted to make a sequel to the original. Arnie, who was looking to make a return to acting, and DeVito joined the sequel. The filmmaker had also decided on a title, “Triplets.” However, after his death in February 2022, the project halted.
Initially, things didn’t look so dire because Ivan Reitman’s son, Jason Reitman, is a multiple-time Oscar-nominated director. However, Jason had no interest in carrying forward his father’s vision. “Jason Reitman f***ed it up! Jason Reitman literally stopped the project,” Schwarzenegger told The Hollywood Reporter. The $450 million net-worth star said he, DeVito, and Ivan Reitman “wanted to do it really badly,” but Jason had other ideas.
“I never liked the idea,” Jason Reitman told Schwarzenegger. However, the seven-time Mr. Olympia had some good news as well. “I’m developing another movie with Danny,” he revealed. Schwarzenegger added that DeVito is a talented actor who is fun to work with. A feeling both actors share.

In February, DeVito appeared for an interview with The Sunday Times. The 78-year-old actor spoke about his hit Disney+ series Little Demon. His Twins co-star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, made an appearance in one of the episodes of the series as well. While talking about the bodybuilding icon, DeVito praised the former Mr. Universe.
Like Arnie, DeVito said he enjoyed working with the Predator star. “We love working together,” said the 78-year-old. DeVito also revealed the pair’s desire to work together once more. “We still got a lot of gumption in us,” the Matilda actor added. Now that Schwarzenegger has confirmed he is working on something with DeVito, we might soon see the pair reunite on the silver screen.
