Frank Zane, hailed as the ‘God of Aesthetics’ started working out at the early age of 14 and until now, when he is 81. To pursue one’s dreams it takes a lot of sacrifice and courage to withstand adversities. Zane who won Mr. Olympia 3x in a row braved a lot of obstacles while he was becoming one of the best bodybuilders of all time. Moreover, he is the epitome of strength and fitness, standing absolutely lean and fit even at this age. His physique is the perfect amalgamation of proportion, strength, and excellence in terms of aesthetics. 

In a recent conversation with Nyle Nayga on his YouTube podcast named ‘Transparent with Nyle Nayga,’ Zane discussed a lot of things, including one of the biggest obstacles he faced in his journey to pursue his dreams.

A conversation that began with Frank’s life journey, what bodybuilding has taught him, and discussing his training regimen and diet plan reached a point, wherein Frank was disclosing one of his biggest obstacles. Nyle asked Zane, “T-bar asks what was your biggest obstacle or challenge that you had to overcome in your life?” The question was put forth by one of Frank Zane’s followers as fans wanted to know the challenges he encountered on his voyage to becoming a legend. 

In response to the question, Frank Zane replied by quoting, “I would say maybe having enough money to do this the way I would like to do it.” Coming from a humble background the God of aesthetics worked hard for a living while taking up an extra job as a maths teacher in Pennsylvania. Thus, continuing the conversation he said, “You know I always had to work for a living and so I was able to teach in school for a while.” Hence, Zane told Nyle that he used to have a lot of free time to take up extra work for a living.

Moreover, on the same lines, he said,

“But I had a lot of free time not a lot free time but enough free time to be able to pursue it.” He spent two years teaching maths before moving to Tampa, Florida, however, his total experience in teaching maths was 13 years. Though he wanted to move to California as he was very serious about winning every bodybuilding contest and professional training, he knew he was destined to do bigger things from a young age. Nevertheless, to reach his desired goal, the Chemist pegged away the restless routine between teaching and training.

Zane’s struggle and hectic schedule

Frank unveiled his hectic regimen while teaching maths and training at the same time by stating, “There were different stages when I was competing. For most of the time I was a full-time schoolteacher – I taught math – so I had a very hectic day where I would teach school up until three o’clock, then train after that. Of course, I had the summers off, which enabled me to train for competition.”

Thus, after years of struggling, Zane retired from teaching only after he won his first Mr. Olympia in 1977. He won three consecutive Sandow trophies from 1977 to 1979. Even at the age of 81 years, he trains by keeping a check on his circulation and maintaining his joint strength. What do you think about Frank Zane’s story? Do comment below.
