In the grand scheme of things, Ronnie Coleman had never planned to become one of the most revered personalities in bodybuilding. Before Ronnie Coleman established himself as the indisputable King, he was a dedicated police officer. But as destiny would have it, his life path slowly nudged him toward his true calling.

The ex-sheriff had humble beginnings, like most rag-to-riches stories. As a youngster, he studied B.Sc. in accounting before moving to Texas to find greener pastures. There, he took on the job of a police officer and discharged his duties from 1998 to 2003. He simultaneously started training in the Metroflex gym at the insistence of a fellow officer. There was no looking back from then on. Recently, a throwback video of Coleman’s police days jogged fans’ memory. They couldn’t help but remark on his confounding size.

Earlier on YouTube, Atomic Pod posted an edited video clip from an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast of the 8x Mr. Olympia wearing his police uniform running in the background while the two having a good chat. The host says, “I remember there’s a photo of you when you were still in the police force, and you were also; I don’t know if you were Mr. Olympia when you were on the police force.” Coleman acknowledged the question with an affirmative answer, adding, “Well, three times, yeah.” His winning streak started in 1998 and continued until 2005, making him the proud owner of eight Sandow trophies. Furthermore, by 2000, the IFBB pro realized Mr. Olympia would demand more time and commitment, so he worked part-time from 2000 to 2003 at the police force.

A change in the police station’s chief made it more challenging for Coleman to continue doing both, which caused his epiphany. While his previous police chief encouraged Coleman’s fitness pursuits, the new replacement did not act the same. In the early 2000s, Jay Cutler had already started making headway in the Olympia competition, threatening to dethrone the royalty. So in 2003, Coleman hung up his uniform to focus on his craft and chisel his body to perfection.

Moreover, his muscular legs and back are considered a standard of greatness in the bodybuilding community. The YouTube snippet harks back to the glory days of this exceptional athlete.
