Seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger grew up poverty-stricken in the small village of Thal, Austria. The Austrian Oaks’s father didn’t earn enough to make life comfortable for his family. He also wasted part of what he earned, on alcohol. Besides, Gustav Schwarzenegger was also so strict he never supported Arnie’s bodybuilding dreams despite his son excelling at it.

While appearing on FOX 11’s The Issue Is with Elex Michaelson, the 76-year-old revealed his relationship with his five children. When Michaelson asked the former Mr. Universe how he is processing?“the love”?people give him for?“being #1 at so many things.”?In his response, Schwarzenegger said while he feels thankful to have the love of the people, he feels lucky that his children also love him despite him being strict with them.

Why the Austrian Oak’s kids love their father

“To me, the important thing is that my kids really kind of like compliment me,”?Arnold Schwarzenegger told Elex Michaelson. While Arnold Schwarzenegger was nowhere near as strict as his father, he still didn’t go easy on his kids. The 76-year-old said,?“That makes me feel good,”?when his children, who have grown to become loving and responsible, recall their upbringing fondly.

“They would just thank me for the way I brought them up even though it was, kind of, disciplined,”?said the bodybuilding legend. However, instead of resenting Arnie’s strictness, his kids are thankful for it. Schwarzenegger’s children remember how he drilled them to become disciplined even through the little things like going skiing during vacation.

“Thank you for making us ski and not go for hot chocolate when we were crying (to have hot chocolate)… you made us ski another five times,”?Arnie’s kids told him. Today, Schwarzenegger’s kids realize how these little things taught them valuable life lessons. Although Schwarzenegger didn’t shy away from taking some extreme measures once in a while.
