In a world where we often strive for stability and control, it’s essential to acknowledge the inherent unpredictability of life. In a sudden turn of events, a young badminton athlete recently lost his life at the tender age of 14 years. The unfortunate event took place in Singapore. The boy was identified as Pranav Madhaik by his uncle.

The boy got hospitalized a short while after he participated in a 400m fitness time trial on October 5th. Pranav, who was an excellent student in academics as well as sports, was a student of the Singapore Sports School and fell ill after participating in the fitness trial.

School authorities and Pranav’s uncle shared insights about the death

According to CNA, the young boy was a member of the association’s national intermediate squad as well, which is a youth training program for talented athletes. Afterwards, the school authorities stated that they will, “undertake a detailed investigation into the incident.” The school further revealed, “He was cheerful and pleasant, and always maintained a positive attitude towards his training and studies. He was a promising youth athlete and has won several national age-group competitions. He was also well-liked by his peers, teachers, and coaches.”

Pranav’s uncle, Raj Verma, confirmed that his parents were informed about the incident when they were still on their way to the hospital. “By the time the doctor attended (to him), most of his organs were already not functioning,” he further said. After being hospitalized moments after the fitness trial, he underwent a bypass surgery and another surgery on his leg before passing away as a result of the incident.

The Singapore Badminton Association’s (SBA) chief executive officer Alan Ow also acknowledged awareness of the incident. He said, “SBA is providing assistance and support to the family while they prepare to send Pranav off.”
