Losing weight has become a popular goal among the current generation. Unfortunately, the recent death of a 21-year-old fitness influencer serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers associated with this trend.
The Insider report reveals that a Chinese influencer named Cuihua passed away at a weight loss camp during an intense transformation program. In a statement released by the family, they cautioned people to avoid participating in such programs that pose a risk to one’s life.
Cuihua lost 57 pounds in two months.

The young woman declared a 200 pounds weight loss as her goal on social media and got herself admitted to a weight loss camp located in Shaanxi province. In the closed camp, Cuihua would follow a routine of strict diet and high-intensity workouts for managing body weight. Her evenings would involve a live streaming session for fans where she would train for them.
She shared her training sessions on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, showcasing her weightlifting and calisthenics exercises. In the videos, she appeared to struggle during her workouts. The influencer claimed to have lost 57 pounds in the first two months, followed by an additional 23 pounds over the next six months.
Mourning her death, the family posted a message in Chinese cautioning people of similar weight loss fads. A translated version read, “We hope that people won’t be misguided by malicious individuals for their entertainment, which could harm parents and family.” They further wrote, “Let our child rest in peace, thank you!” confirming Cuihua’s demise. Earlier, the record-breaking powerlifter and Doctor in Physical Therapy spoke about the weight loss obsession in recent years.

The powerlifter often shares her knowledge in the fitness field with her followers. In one such post, Cohen shared her observations on weight loss. “The obsession with weight loss has led us to become undernourished, over-fat, and under-muscled,” she pointed out.

She suggests fitness enthusiasts should shift focus from losing fat to building muscle. The boxer further elaborated to add lean mass while training to lose weight so that the fat-to-muscle ratio sees a change.
