61-year-old Monica Bousquet competed on the bodybuilding stage barely 48 hours ago. The inspiring fitness influencer and competitive bodybuilder competed in the NPC Masters Brazil. While Bousquet didn’t win the competition, the 61-year-old finished in second place and walked away with a silver trophy. However, hours after her fruitful showing at the bodybuilding contest, Bousquet revealed she suffered from the after-effects of chondromalacia.
The Masters competitor, who turned her health around at 53, discussed the effects of the ailment. While Monica Bousquet has been training for the last eight years, she overlooked her health for over four decades. Bousquet suffered from chondromalacia a.k.a runner’s knee. The painful condition softened the cartilage in her knee joint and led to severe limitations. The 61-year-old revealed how she has dealt with the condition while chasing her bodybuilding dream.
A tale of perseverance

“Chondromalacia left me with consequences, not physical but psychological,” wrote the 61-year-old bodybuilder. Besides pain, those who develop a runner’s knee also find it very hard to move their joint depending on the damage. While Bousquet didn’t reveal how difficult it was for her to move, the 62-year-old explained she still suffers due to the aftermath. The condition stole her full range of motion.

“To this day, I’m limited in my squats,” wrote the Masters competitor. However, the fitness influencer persevered despite her limitations. Although she still finds it difficult to achieve efficiency while squatting, she has developed strength through the range of motion she has left. What’s more? The fitness enthusiast isn’t ready to give up on regaining her lost movement either.
While suffering the after-effects of chondromalacia has created a “mental barrier,” Bousquet is determined to overcome it. In the video, Monica Bousquet can be seen performing rehab exercises besides traditional strength-building ones. However, Bousquet’s goals extend beyond conquering her limitations.

The bodybuilder has competed frequently since her first competition. In fact, a few months before the Mr. Olympia, the 61-year-old won Muscle Contest Brazil in the Women’s Masters 60+ category. Despite her age, the Brazilian desires to overcome the effects of chondromalacia, continuously improve, and keep helping more people achieve their dream physique.
