The fitness community has always helped grow athleticism among its members. Thus, it is not rare to see bodybuilders to be a part of different sports. However, every sport demands specific requirements distinct from others which becomes problematic for the athletes. So when someone tries to cross over to a different game, they don’t necessarily become successful.? Among them, two of the most renowned bodybuilders are Ronnie Coleman and Shawn Ray.

Ronnie Coleman has won 8 Mr. Olympia titles yet he had also openly talked about his failure to be in the NFL. Shawn Ray, in a similar vein, had also suggested his dream to play in the NFL which never became a reality.

Shawn Ray’s missed opportunity

In the latest episode of Jay Cutler’s podcast, Cutler Cast, Shawn Ray was featured alongside Manager Matt and Jay Cutler. Although the subject matter of the episode had been varied, there came a point when Cutler asked him, “Was that your dream though to play professional football?”. In reply, Ray instantly retorted without hesitation, “It was 100%”. The bodybuilder then went on to talk about his brief football career.

Ray confessed that his last match had been in 1983. Although he wanted to continue playing football, he once had a major strain in his knees and could not continue. Moreover, the final games and the teenage nationals fell on the same weekend and the bodybuilder had no option but to choose the latter.

One of the greatest bodybuilders of all time, Ronnie Coleman also had a similar inclination towards the NFL. However, his wishes were not fulfilled.

Ronnie Coleman’s unfulfilled wishes

In one of his interviews with Patrick Bet-David, Ronnie Coleman briefly talked about his intentions to take part in football. The 8x Mr. Olympia however never got drafted. Thus he stated,??I had talked to some pro scouts but I never got drafted so I felt like if I wasn?t good enough to get drafted, I wasn?t good enough to play. That was just my attitude?.?But deep inside he confessed to believing that if he tried he might have had a team.

Many bodybuilders have interests in different fields outside of their niche. Many have also accomplished heights in such new spectrums. Yet, there are people who have to make a choice between either bodybuilding or something else. Bodybuilders like Ronnie Coleman and Shawn Ray chose the first.
