Bodybuilding’s Titan Mike O’Hearn is all set to do a little guest posing at the Arnold Classic 2024, scheduled to be held this weekend. He is in the process of getting ‘ripped overnight’ because this was supposed to be his off-season. So now, with the event approaching fast, he is doing power bodybuilding with the nutrition of a crazy man slicing and dicing.
O’Hearn is not just trying to keep his strength intact, but also boosting it as he diets down, which is a rather difficult task. While he shared the video of how he got ‘ripped to bones overnight’, Mike O’Hearn also shared what are the qualities that you must look for in your training partner, because they play a very important role in the process of your transformation. Here’s what he said.
“Your partner should not pull you down,” says Mike O’Hearn

Mike O’Hearn began by saying how, when you are on a strict diet, and trying to pace up the process of transformation, you should have a training partner that doesn’t pull you back, handicap you, or slow you down. He must know that he is eating more than you and thus his job is to keep you going even when you’re not feeling the urge to, which might happen because you are light-headed when you diet.
However, that in no way means that he is held responsible for you to show up. Because if you do not turn up, that suggests that you are a bad partner. He said, “You should want this because it’s your life and if you need somebody else to say “Hey buddy come on to the gym” that’d be cool, that’s not who I’m going to talk to because you’re always going to be a struggle to get to the gym.”
As he goes on with the video, Mike O’Hearn even points out the difference between ‘getting the work in’ and ‘getting the work out’ in the gym. He states why it is important to focus on progress rather than focusing on sets.

Why does Mike O’Hearn not count his sets?
Mike O’Hearn further goes on to say how some people in the gym like him were getting the work down, while the others were getting the work in. He added that when you count each set, including the warm-up because that is what the chart says and you must abide by it, putting in no extra effort, it means you work out to feel good and get that little pat on the back from your partner. Well, for Mike O’Hearn, he does not need the pat. He only counts the sets that matter.

If his chart says he has to pull out four sets or reps of a particular workout, what matters to him is the fifth set and fifth rep. It is from then that he starts counting and keeping track. Because that last set you pull out to failure is what brings about the progress on you according to the Titan. You must always grab the partner that gets the work done, not just verbally. But when you see them working hard, you have the urge to do so. That is what motivates him to challenge himself!
