Like in every other sport, athletes who engage in bodybuilding also reach a stage where they feel like the path forward has ended. Along the same lines, Chris Bumstead’s coach and brother-in-law Iain Valliere had announced his retirement earlier, just weeks before the Mr. Olympia 2023. Later, even CBum had scared his fans by talking about his retirement before the marquee event.
Later, however, the four-time Mr. Olympia Classic Physique winner clarified that he would attempt to lift the Sandow trophy for the fifth time. At the Mr. Olympia arena, Bumstead oozed confidence about maintaining his winning streak. But moments away from getting on stage once more, he was asked a very crucial question about where he sees himself in the future, and he gave a cryptic answer.

In his latest interview with Voice of Bodybuilding, he was asked to impart his insights about the lineup of this year’s open. As the interview proceeded, he was also asked what he plans for his future, and whether he will be seen for the opens soon or not. In reply, CBum retorted, ?It?s such a tough question.? Then he continued to say how the plans have not been made as of yet. He also emphasized the fact that he felt young, thus insinuating his thought of a long bodybuilding career to try out things later on.
However, he has also pointed out, “The past few weeks, I’ve been in stride.” He further added how he only had the mindset to prep and that was truly making him happy and feel good about himself. He said, “You feel good. You are tired, but you’re like, ‘yeah I’m a bodybuilder.'”
CBum has been dominating the arena of Classic Physique for a while now. After being compared with Arnold Schwarzenegger, he has also been suggested to join the Open’s division.
Chris Bumstead’s belongingness
In one of his conversations with Bob Cicherillo, Cicherillo had told him how Shawn Ray’s opinions highly side with CBum’s capabilities. He stated, “You?re in the wrong division. You should be in the open. Your eye should be on that Sandow. You should be in that open.” But instead of agreeing with that, Chris Bumstead is certain where he wants to be. Thus, boldly, he had remarked, “I?m right where I belong.”
