Dorian Yates recently appeared in a video on Escape Fitness’s YouTube channel. Amidst many other topics, Yates talked about the importance of rest and recovery. Talking about female lifters, Yates suggested an alternate way of losing fat. He suggested shifting your focus from fat loss to gaining muscle, as it will automatically increase your metabolism, which in turn will result in fat loss. “When you build muscle, it’s like putting a bigger engine in your car. Just sitting there ticking over it requires more fuel,”?said Yates.?
The Shadow continued by disclosing,?“If you’re a lady and you want to lose fat, build the muscle. Use weight training to build muscle and then you will be burning the fat because you require more calories.”
Yates further explained that the main thing to consider apart from this is your recovery.?“You put a bigger engine in your car, so whether you’re a woman or a man, doesn’t matter the same principles apply. What will be a variable factor in there is your recovery ability.”?
Why is recovery directly connected to growth?
Yates revealed that apart from nutrition and lifestyle choices, an athlete’s recovery can also depend on his genetics. The fact that two individuals are not able to reach the same goals in the same amount of time is linked to recovery. Explaining this in detail, he stated that a person with good recovery can train more often, resulting in better results. “Person’s metabolism, their lifestyle, or they’re taking performance-enhancing steroids or things like that which enhances recovery,”?said Yates.

“That’s the structure, stimulus, recovery, growth. So needs to be assessed with sufficient stimulus. There needs to be sufficient recovery period and materials to build a diet and then your body can get bigger and stronger,”?concluded Yates.
