How would you feel if you were submerged in minus-temperature, icy-cold water with nothing but your willpower and could not get out before 2 minutes? This was a question that might have gone through the mind of a happy pedestrian on a sunny afternoon. Ice baths are all the rage in the bodybuilding world right now, with Mark Wahlberg, Chris Bumstead, Chris Hemsworth, and many others opting for this method. Ice baths are said to help with cardiac health as well as a lot of other things like joint pain and inflammation, but would you take the plunge in breathtakingly cold water?

Recently, a man decided to invite strangers to do a cold plunge with him. The video was eye-opening for the audience as well as the stranger who decided to accompany the man named Cam Labar.

Cam Labar, better known as Cold Plunge Cam, on his Instagram page, inspires people with his process of overcoming mental challenges through the chilling depths of ice-cold baths. His life took a huge turn when he discovered cold plunges for self-relief from anxiety, depression, and Tourette?s syndrome. He has gone from rubbermaid tubs to natural cold waters, and his journey highlights exposure to different cold plunge modalities. Recently, he welcomed a stranger to try the cold plunge with him in a video shared by bodybuilding.com. They captioned the post, ?The transformation you see after his first ice bath is incredible. This is a very real example of what a first ice bath is like .?

The video starts with him submerged in 6 degrees Celsius of ice-cold water in the wilderness when a passerby spots him. The stranger is visibly appalled by the sound of his voice as he asks, “How you doing, boss?? Cam replies with a big smile, ?How’s it going? Do you want to do an ice bath? Come on, man! I’ll jump out. I’m serious, come in! Do it.? As he attempts to get out of the water, the stranger shouts, ?Child, chill!? as he was not ready yet. Labar informs the stranger of the temperature and says, ?We?re at 43 degrees.? The next cut shows the stranger getting ready to bravely take the plunge. Cam is guiding him through the process and says, ?I mean, even if you get like, two minutes…” The man is appalled and says, ?Two minutes!? The stranger even asks about the temperature of the river behind him, which is 17 degrees, and the ice water, which is 6 degrees.

Even when he is scared and screaming, he enters the water slowly. Labar instructs him on how to breathe through the process, and the man does the whole routine well. As soon as he gets the breathing down, there is a visible change in his expression, and he calms down. The two minutes go by in a breeze, and the man succeeds in the cold plunge, much to Labar?s delight. The man even admits, “It’s (the cold) all in the beginning.” This is how Cam helps himself and his strangers realize the mental and physical power they have. Bodybuilders such as Rich Gaspari, Joe Rogan, and other celebrities have advocated for cold plunges as well.
