The podcast hosted by the Shadow is known as the Shadow Talk and this time it featured Tom Platz as the main guest. The podcast was mostly about Platz and his life, but it also included a lot of information about the career of Yates since both of them were competing, almost at the same time. He had a very profound answer to the question that most people ask him and the question is, “Are there things you would change if you could?”

Yates answered, “I am like I don’t look at it like that I mean there are things that I have learned from yeah but I wouldn’t go back and you know let’s say 97 I tore my tricep and it ended my career and it was very uh very traumatic.” However, he also added that he would not change a single thing in his past, because if the champion had not turned his tricep in 1997, then he would not be where he is today. Yates admitted the fact that whatever happened, happened for the better and right now he’s balanced and calm in his life. He does not look back at his career with any regrets and The Golden Eagle could not agree more to this.

In a previous interview with David Robson, The Shadow admitted that the injuries that were caused during his time would be due to his fault. He either worked out intensely or did not give his muscles enough time to recover from the exercise.

In 1994, he tore his biceps but fortunately, it did not affect his training. Even though his training was going smoothly, the shape of his biceps was altered forever. Unfortunately, in 1997 Yates tore his tricep and almost 95% of the tendon in his arm got detached. Despite being severely injured he won his 6th Olympia. He did win his 6th Sandow but his conditioning got diminished so The Shadow decided to look after his body and retired for the same reason.
