Tom Platz was uncomfortable with women in the gym

The 70s and 80s were a golden age in bodybuilding, but only for men, it seems. Even when there was an official bodybuilding competition held at the YMCA in 1977 by Henry McGhee, few female bodybuilders pursued this as a career. Now the scenario has drastically changed, but at that time it was a man?s world.

Tom Platz talked about how he felt about women coming into the Gold?s Gym at the prime time of his career. The father of quads had some strong opinions about women in the bodybuilding industry. He said, ?When I first went to the Gold?s Gym back in the 70s there was no female bodybuilding. It was a men?s sanctuary. The first Gold?s Gym was a men?s sanctuary.? Tom also emphasized how he did not feel comfortable with women being in the gym and recalled, ?First, I was uncomfortable with women being in the gym. I was like how can I train with a girl being here? And then there were no women’s restrooms in the gym.?

Unfortunately, his first two marriages did not work out but his third marriage with Cha Nikito-Platz was a boon in disguise. The Quadfather said, ?So, my third wife who I?m still married to. She?s the best thing that ever happened to me. A retired doctor, she?s running companies. We were married in the 2000s, so it?s been 18 years. I?m done getting married okay!? ?
