Earlier, the Strongman broached the essential topic of having a supportive training circle on his podcast. He also posted a snippet of the show on Instagram. The retired athlete wrote, “…..having a great training group/partners can make you better…but the wrong training partner/partners can bring you down.” He further adds, “It is important to realize this and also to look yourself in the mirror to think about what you are bringing to the table as a training partner.”

Like-minded individuals who are hustling in life to achieve big things are a rarity. Many people engage in petty trivialities that are an absolute no-no at the highest level of the championship. A champion would want to train with someone who has a winning mindset.

The partner should also be kind enough to understand when someone in the group is not feeling 100 percent. Reflecting the same thought process, Shaw argues, “…..because it is a sacrifice and it’s something that feeding off of somebody else’s energy like that is tough, right?” He adds, “Because there’s people that will come in and take energy, but there are other people that will come in and bring energy, and those are rare.” For Shaw, engaging with people on the same wavelength seems really important.

Shaw, wanting to stay away from any negativity during training, suggests choosing partners from whom the entire group benefits. He says, “You both can pick each other up and even in a group setting, the whole group elevates; you’ll get better for sure.”

Workout partners ensure accountability and transparency for the group. Bodybuilding requires a lot of discipline, strength, and physical and mental agility. Having a supportive group is essential when committing to something long-term. Even friends and family may not understand the struggle of wanting to be the best in a desired field. For that, one needs positive training partners.
