Canadian Bodybuilder Chris Bumstead brings an old-world charm to the bodybuilding circles. He can flaunt a mean stomach vacuum that even Frank Zane would approve of. The 4x winner of Mr. Olympia Classic Physique is riding the wave of success. However, Bumstead’s journey has not always been smooth.

In a recent interview on social media, Bumstead shed light on the challenges he faced and the measures he took to protect his health. Just one year after his debut in the Mr. Olympia competition, he encountered a major health scare that left a lasting impact on him. In 2018, Bumstead was hospitalized due to excessive water retention, which unveiled the harmful effects of a toxic drug he had been consuming for five years prior.

Earlier, the Canadian champion appeared in an interview on YouTube, hosted by Chris Williamson. CBum answered some tough questions without holding back much. Williamson, the host of Modern Wisdom Podcast, questioned the champion’s “longevity” in his career. To this, the reigning icon replied that “I do a lot of diagnostics and blood work and make sure I am getting healthy and ever since I was sick in 2018 my blood works continuously improved so I know like there is no negative impact I am putting on myself.”

2018 was especially a harsh year for the champion, as he was hospitalized just six weeks before the Mr. Olympia competition. During the competition, he looked frail. Later, it was revealed that Bumstead suffered from an autoimmune kidney disorder which made his body swell up. Within two days, he had put more than 15 pounds due to water retention. After the health scare, the bodybuilder has become very conscious of his well being evident from his reluctance to take steroids.

Chris Bumstead is not on ‘Tren’ for the past five years

The interviewer asked the promising bodybuilder, “What are the things that for you are like off the table?” Chris Bumstead replied that he avoids taking Trenbolone popularly known as ‘Tren’. This steroid mimics testosterone hormone and it is great at bulking up and shredding. However, it has major long-term side effects. The bodybuilder said “The biggest one is like ‘’Tren’ there is a guy who literally base their social media off that….. but that’s the most toxic thing you can put in your body and I have done it in the past but I don’t anymore. I just haven’t touched it in 5 years.” He further informs the interviewer that,”Just the toxicity it causes in your body. It just comes in harms your kidneys your liver”

After suffering in 2018, Bumstead now places more importance on his health. He says “If I am going to sacrifice my future life hopefully with family and children of my own. I am going to be sick or unable to enjoy it with then that’s the biggest thing I would regret.” It is inspiring to see the Fitness icon, be so clear about his priorities.
