‘Leave your ego at the door,’ is a common saying in the bodybuilding world, but hardly anyone follows it. Social media platforms are filled with videos showcasing athletes lifting incredibly heavy, which often fuels the desire for ego lifting, giving them recognition and validation. While the desire to push one’s limits and achieve impressive feats is understandable, ego lifting in strength training poses significant risks and drawbacks. Bodybuilder and fitness icon Kenny KO recently posted a video educating the viewers about the consequences of ego lifting.

Kenny regularly posts fitness-related content to spread awareness about it. After gaining years of experience, he intends to help the public achieve their fitness goals. With that being said, let’s take a look at what he had to say about ego lifting.?

Kenny once went through a horrific back injury

In a recently posted video on his Instagram, Kenny depicted a video of an individual attempting super heavy deadlifts (approximately 605 Lbs). While he managed to pull the weight up, Kenny pointed out that he sacrificed his form and did a ‘jerky’ lift. He also shared the saddening incident that he went through during his initial lifting years. “I injured my back dead lifting in high school for football many, many years ago, plenty of other people who have injured themselves…professionals injured themselves on a very frequent basis.”

“He got it up no matter how he did. Little bit of snap city if you will?do not do this if you cannot control the weight, do not touch the weight,”?said Kenny. Continuing, he added,?“You’re pretty much asking for a chiropractor or surgeon to be in your life for the remaining time you have?risk to reward?is it worth it?”?

Kenny posed a very serious question for the viewers. While ego lifting might be fun for a short while, if gone wrong, its impact can last lifelong. Among many other big names, bodybuilding legend Lee Priest also once warned the fans against ego lifting.

Lee Priest’s take on ego lifting

In a recent interview with Sam’s Fitness, IFBB Pro, Lee Priest,?cleared the air related to a common misconception?prevailing among teen lifters. He discussed that young lifters often think lifting super heavy in shoulder exercises is the optimum way of building muscle.??I see people lifting 80 pounds and they are just pulling their arms and not focusing on their delts.?

??So leave your ego at the door if you are training rear delts,??emphasizes Priest.?What helped Priest achieve a Greek-god physique was focusing on a full range of motion and proper form to ensure muscle hypertrophy. ‘Carlos’ Priest tried to highlight the risk-to-reward ratio of ego lifting just like Kenny.?
