The bodybuilding world saw a shift in dynamics from mass monsters to aesthetics with the advent of Frank Zane. The 80-year-old is revered as the King of Aesthetics for his Greek God sculpture. The 3x Mr.Olympia achieved supremacy in conditioning because of a thorough understanding of his workout and diet regime.
Zane now explained how he did the right workout routine that helped him master a well-defined body in The Mike O’Hearn Show on the Generation Iron Fitness & Bodybuilding Network YouTube channel.

When asked about his training regime, Zane opened up by saying, “I worked up and wait on every set I do,” in the show. He further revealed, “I stretch between sets so I always deter, I’d stretch for a good 15-20 seconds after every step.” Curious to know why did Zane do that, the host Titan asked for the “reason”. “Well I figured you know when you’re doing the exercise you get maximum contraction you want to balance that with a maximum stretch which is the opposite of what you’re doing that’s sort of neutralize it,” the Hall Famer reasoned his workout tactics.
This impressed O’Hearn who went on to explain it further. “Now there are so many things that you guys did that they realize now why it was so right!” American Gladiators star exclaimed. As one pumps the muscle, the fascia that holds the muscle will take up more and more blood getting bigger with time.
“Without knowing what these guys are talking about you’re already doing that just because you knew the contraction on the opposite side made this stretch,” O’Hearn remarked to The Chemist. However, Zane said that he did it because it felt good and he didn’t look for scientific reasons. But earlier he confessed that he learned the right ways by trial and error method.
The Chemist admits to doing Stupid stuff while training
Zane also followed the same course of the journey as a learner like everyone. His learnings came from experimenting while working out. Listing out the “stupid stuff” he did during his career, The Chemist noted, training too heavy, bulking up, and getting injured, are his mistakes.

He further points out that knowing the right time to push hard and the right time to rest is what bodybuilders generally struggle with. It is more of “faith that something will work” that pushes one to pursue lifting weights, he opined.
