The period between the 1950s and the 1970s is believed to be the golden era of bodybuilding. This era has a particular place in the history of the sport because the greatest physiques ever were carved at that time, some of which the community is still in awe of to this day. The symmetry and form of athletes during this era were near flawless and aesthetically pleasing, an aspect arguably not so prevalent among today’s pros.

Therefore, a recent Instagram post by eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney took the fans down memory lane. He posted an old picture, presenting a lineup of probably the greatest bodybuilders from the era, all suited up and standing shoulder-to-shoulder on stage. Thus, Haney hailed the iconic moment with a perceptive caption.

Even though knowledge and information were still emerging and evolving in those times, the athletes managed to showcase arguably superior finesse. Per an article by Inside Bodybuilding, the stark difference between the physiques of the present and the past is aesthetics. Nowadays, athletes tend to look more bloated and unhealthy in comparison to their older counterparts.

The widely believed argument is the use of steroids and their doses. While PEDs were also prevalent in the past, the doses were much smaller, and athletes did not completely rely on the substances. They took up natural methods, and even the training philosophy was different back then. Bodybuilders trained with old-school workouts; some have practiced them to date, given their amazing results.
