One of the highest numbers of Mr. Olympia winners, besides Ronnie Coleman, Lee Haney deliberately recalls one of his most crucial encounters with the bodybuilding beast Joe Gold.
Joe Gold determined Lee Haney’s genius after looking at his calves

The eight-times Mr. Olympia champ, Haney, shares his first experience with Joe in the video posted by Muscle & Strength. In the video, Lee remembers how Gold had asked him to show his calves. He said, “I never will forget when I first visit world’s gym. And you had Joe Gold there.” When Gold was asked to check out Haney, he said, “pull up your pants”. The 8x Mr. Olympia at this point reflects how he did what he was told to do, and upon inspection of Lee’s legs and calves, Joe had remarked, “you’re going places”.
Calling Joe Gold, the godfather of bodybuilding, Lee Haney further explains Joe’s point of view. He declared, “he didn’t give a crap about what he saw up top because everybody got something up top. If you don’t have wheels, you don’t make it in the sport of bodybuilding.” It is indeed true and thoroughly noticed that most bodybuilders usually pay more heed to their upper body instead, and because of that, lose the balanced figure and ultimately find it costing the contests.

I want to know they have legs you know.” He declares how the off-putting thing about the present generation of bodybuilders is the imbalance in their muscle structure, especially their legs. Haney points out the mistakes made by them. He remarks, “they’re now in a system where they would train one body part a week, legs once a week, calves once a week.”
