Frank Zane, a three-time Mr. Olympia winner, made consistent progress in the world of bodybuilding. His dominance during the golden era of bodybuilding was unparalleled, and he collaborated with renowned bodybuilders like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dorian Yates.

Zane’s achievements include defeating Arnold in the 1968 Mr. Universe competition. However, his most significant moment might have been receiving a compliment from Bob Hoffman. In a recent YouTube podcast on ‘Mr. American Heart,’ channel, Zane opened up about the incident and seemed very happy about the sweet exchange.

John Heart interviews Mr. America, Mr. Universe, and 3X Mr. Olympia, Frank Zane in this video. Zane discussed how he defeated his contemporaries like Arnold and Mentzer, and how he did not focus on just bulking up. Frank recalls that he had got a compliment from the Father of American Weightlifting about his physique. He said, “I remember one contest might even be my first competition, it was in Emmaus Pennsylvania.”

Continuing the conversation Frank recalled, “Bob Hoffman, the Father of American Weightlifting came over to me and said ‘Young man, if I had a physique like yours, I’d walk around with my shirt off all the time,’ I was very enamored by that compliment.”

This compliment made Zane work harder towards his goals. Just like Zane got motivated by one of his idols, he also became someone else’s motivation.

When Platz did not have any proper income even after winning Mr. Universe, Frank Zane was the one person who helped him out. When Platz was thinking how he would sustain two months, Zane come to the rescue and said, “Now that you’re Mr. Universe, you should charge no less than $3000 to go somewhere.” Once Tom applied this trick with the next invitations, his life took a huge turn.
