Derek Lunsford is a serious contender for the upcoming Mr. Olympia this year. The bodybuilding icon’s glorious journey includes the IFBB Tampa Pro title in the 212 division in 2017 and the 212 Mr. Olympia in 2021. But what raised his stature in the bodybuilding community was the 2022 Mr. Olympia, where he occupied second place, missing the top spot by four points.

However, he now talks about his controversy-causing attitude and how his coach, Hany Rambod, advised him not to say anything his fans might misinterpret.

The 30-year-old is known for his attitude, which brought him into a tussle with Flex Lewis in 2018 at a conference. However, he gets constant advice from his mentor, the ‘Pro Creator’ Hany Rambod. Appearing on the latest Muscle and Fitness’s The Menace Podcast, Derek Lunsford opened up about himself in a candid chat.

The show host, Dennis James, inquired, “Do you get tips from Hany regarding how to conduct yourself in certain situations?” The bodybuilding champion confirmed that most mentorship happens just by being around Hany.

Observing Lunsford’s behavior back in 2019, 2020, and 2021, Rambod suggested to his mentee, “You can be better than that.” However, the Mr. Olympia runner-up opened up, “If I say something that’s controversial or edgy like, that’s just me I’m not I don’t feel like I’m a bad person.” To the uninformed, Derek Lunsford and Flex Lewis were once involved in a ‘heated’ argument at a conference.
