Since the start of the new year, Arnold Schwarzenegger has become active on multiple social media platforms. However, that was because Schwarzenegger started promoting his daily fitness newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club. While he interacts with fans on social media, personally, the seven-time Mr. Olympia doesn’t use social media regularly. In fact, in his most recent newsletter, the 75-year-old urged his readers to cut out specific pages.
Last week, the bodybuilding legend told the readers to identify news articles from pages that made them angry. This week, he told his readers to stop following those pages. However, he also thought about those among his readers who constantly need information on their news feeds. For them, Schwarzenegger explained why he doesn’t use social media and still learns about crucial news.

“Let me tell you how I deal with social media and the news,” Arnie wrote. The bodybuilding icon understands that social media is the principal reason behind the information overload for most people. Constantly being bombarded with news provides information but could also lead to the individual feeling overwhelmed. The 75-year-old has a simple method to avoid this.
“First, the news. I read two newspapers every morning and try to tune into local TV news in the evening,” wrote the seven-time Mr. Olympia. While the newspaper also enrages Schwarzenegger, it’s rare. However, news articles on social media often anger droves of people. He also admitted to not getting the absolute latest news in the papers.
However, Schwarzenegger gets the important news instead of fluff from the morning newspapers. Schwarzenegger learned about the crisis from the newspaper before donating a million dollars’ worth of medical equipment to hospitals in 2020. Similarly, he donated tiny homes to homeless veterans after reading about it in the papers.
“I’d go insane and probably spend all of my money if I scrolled the news every minute like all of you do,” the 75-year-old wrote in his newsletter. Hence, Schwarzenegger recommended his readers practice some information detox by sitting out fluff on social media. However, this isn’t the first time he has written on social media.
Arnold Schwarzenegger on the algorithms that control people’s lives
The goal of every social media site is to retain users. Hence, they use advanced algorithms to hook people into watching the content they like. Some of the most aggressive apps gather various information from the users to generate the content they want and, sometimes, even dictate their preferences.
In a previous newsletter, the former Mr. Universe warned people about these algorithms. “It’s clear that social media algorithms boost our worst impulses,” he stated. However, the bodybuilding icon also remarked that people might voluntarily click on such suggestions. Soon t becomes a feedback loop of negativity.
