Dorian Yates posted a picture on his Instagram account on 17th May 2023 that showed two pictures taken ten years apart. The image displays The Shadow in 1985 and 1995, Mr. Olympia, respectively. He captioned it as “Two competitions, 10 years apart… but what happened between these two pictures?”

He further penned, “Back in 1985, I hadn’t even thought of trying to reach the Olympia stage! My goal was to become a successful British level champion bodybuilder. If I could achieve that, I’d be happy and a goal would be ticked off.”

Yates won Mr. Olympia from 1992 to 1997 consecutively and etched his name in the sport’s history. He is the one who started the Mass Monster era in bodybuilding.

In a podcast with Rob Lipsett, Yates explained that bodybuilding had kept him sane through his difficult teenage years. He said, “Because of what happened to me, I don’t really trust anybody. So, I wanted to be in total control of everything…No outside factors, because people have been making stupid decisions as far as I can see”.
