Former Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler earned the nickname the Comeback Kid. In 2009 he avenged his loss at the hands of Dexter Jackson and earned his third Sandow trophy. Now at 49, the bodybuilding icon is planning to make another comeback. While he has maintained a good physique, working out despite not competing, the 49-year-old is currently undertaking the Fit at 50 challenge. In the latest episode of Jay Walking, the former Mr. Olympia opened up about how he is transforming his physique.

Whether you’re a world-class bodybuilder or a regular guy, putting on muscle mass at 49 is challenging. Hence the former bodybuilding champion has to keep in mind every minute detail to achieve the best shape possible within 12 weeks. In the Youtube video, Cutler explained the blueprint for success.

At the beginning of the video, the four-time Mr. Olympia reveals he is now seven and a half weeks into the 12-week transformation. At the end of this transformation, Cutler plans to get as close as possible to his Olympia-winning physique. However, to do that, he is trying to maintain the perfect balance between gaining muscle and losing fat.

Thankfully, “I was the best in the world at what I did,” said Cuter, and so he has planned everything. For his diet, the Arnold Classic winner didn’t tweak his multiple-time Olympia-winning diet. When starting the challenge, the former competitive bodybuilder had uploaded an old video of what he had for breakfast and said he was back to having “the breakfast of champions.”

In the video, the pro-bodybuilder-turned-entrepreneur elaborated on his meal timing and numbers. “I’m spoiled with six or seven meals a day,” said Cutler. The former champion is also taking recovery seriously as age slows down recovery significantly. Hence, Cutler rests different “body parts (for) 72 hours before training again.”

Age also takes a toll on the metabolism. However, to build muscle, the three-time Arnold Classic champ can’t cut down on eating his six to seven meals. Hence, the Comeback Kid has also increased the amount of cardio he does. “I’m trying to at least hit the metabolism twice a day… with cardio alone,” revealed the 49-year-old. Besides doing fasted cardio, he is also doing “post cardio.”

However, Jay Cutler is cautious about getting a shredded physique. Professional bodybuilders go to extreme lengths to look shredded. Since Cutler is 49, he is putting his health first. “I’m not trying to get like absolutely shredded, but I’m trying to get just lean,” said the former champion.
