Very few?bodybuilders can say that they have beaten Arnold Schwarzenegger in Mr. Olympia. Among the competitors who beat the Austrian Oak was three-time Mr. Olympia champion Frank Zane. Over half a century after that, and after becoming a Hall of Fame winner, Frank Zane opened up about his celebrated career. The Chemist reminisced back to his competitive days and reiterated how he was 41 years old during his last competition. His last onstage competition was the 1983 Mr. Olympia in Germany’s Munich. Another startling revelation was that Zane suffered a bike accident just before the competition in which he placed fourth.?

In a recent conversation with Michael Stein, the 81-year-old opened up about his decorated career. He also spoke about how the last Olympia was his most controversial competition to date.?

Zane wanted to win a 4th time

Frank Zane reminisced about his career and Michael asked him about his iconic three wins at the Olympia. Zane narrated, ?They were all good. You know in 1976, I came very close to, I was in great shape that year but they gave it to Franco Columbu by a narrow margin. And usually when you almost win it like that, because you and subsequently.??


The God of Aesthetics also gave a revelation about his fourth time in Olympia, He said, ? I actually should?ve retired in 79, but I wanted to win it a fourth time but it just never happened.? He also admitted that the window of being a bodybuilder was very less due to the body?s natural aging process. On top of that, he also had to compete with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who came back to the stage after five years of a hiatus from competitive bodybuilding.

Zane has previously talked to Mike O?Hearn about his career as well. He was also hopeful that he would contribute to the field of bodybuilding properly.

Frank Zane opens up about his career

The 1968 Mr. Universe winner, who was always particular about the mind-body connection, explained to Mike that since he was 80 he was taking things slow. He said,??Those days are gone. I?m 80 years old, so I?m just, just gonna take it easy, sit in this chair, sit back, watch other people do stuff.??

He also revealed that by the time he was turning 41, he realized that he needed to close the chapter of bodybuilding and move on. Narrating this Zane said, ?The older you get, the harder it gets, and the less motivated I was to keep doing it because?.there?s no good reason to keep up, keep doing this.?
