Rich Gaspari, World’s second richest bodybuilder, has been a runner-up for three consecutive years, in 1986,1987, and 1988 Mr. Olympia competitions. The bodybuilding legend often appreciates the old school when compared to modern-age bodybuilding for its techniques and hard work involved. The first Arnold Classic winner often posts his thoughts on social media about the sport he pursued.

In a recent Instagram post, the fitness entrepreneur shared a video of his training days, back when he was competing, to give a glimpse of his intense workout, to his fans. The clip focuses on the monster calves Gaspari had during his prime years.

The 59-year-old bodybuilding legend tells the importance of calf training in his recent Instagram post. “I found this old video on calf training. Seems today the calf muscle is not as important to train and many of today’s Bodybuilders neglect calves,” writes Gaspari pointing out a difference between today’s and yesteryear’s bodybuilders. 

He was seen performing half squats on a Calf machine with a focus on calf strengthening. The fitness star feels calves used to be an essential part of bodybuilding competition in the olden days and have recently lost its importance. “As you see I trained calves heavy and hard. It was an important muscle back in the ’80s And 90’s, he writes.

The tycoon of the fitness industry would focus on calf training thrice a week, doing 15-20 reps with heavy weights. He adds, “Calves can take a lot to grow.” The legend, however, feels a lot has changed with present-day modern bodybuilding.

Gaspari’s thoughts on modern bodybuilding

Gaspari often comments on the issues surrounding modern bodybuilding. In his opinion, modern bodybuilders primarily focus on bulk gain. This often leads to not developing a well-defined physique. He also stresses good nutrition for better physical transformation.
