Flex Lewis turned 40 this year, and well, this made him realize that he must now retire from the professional realm of bodybuilding and withdrew himself from competitive bodybuilding in May. However, there have been several rumours about his comeback, after one of the statements he had made in the Straight Outta Lair podcasts.
After all the rumors that went floating about his comeback, Flex Lewis dismissed them and revealed that there’s a difference between having a desire and actually doing it. He says that his journey has been commendable and now he only wishes to stay fit. He also unraveled the difficult bits he face during his journey.

In the latest podcast of Straight Outta Lair, where he recently appeared as a guest on his 40th birthday, Flex Lewis opened up about his professional journey in the bodybuilding sphere. He came from a very humble background and made a name for himself in the field. He also went on to talk about how some athletes have this necessity to constantly keep reminding their followers, who are already crazy about them, how good they are.

However, according to him, just knowing you’re good enough does the task. From his own experience, Lewis adds, “But if you know you’re good, you don’t have to and in my case, I turned up every single year in absolute peeled condition because I worked, I suffered in silence.”

He even added how in the bodybuilding business, although hard work is an exceptionally important resource to reach the top, word of mouth also comes into play, and that according to him is what made him who he is today. Well, having good genetics helped him, too. However, people often forget the line between hard work and genetics. The legendary bodybuilder pointed this out too.

Flex Lewis pointed out the prevalence of delusional narcissism in the sport of bodybuilding. He believed that this could seep into the daily lives of bodybuilders. He added that while genetics and potential might act as a lubricant in your journey to success, if there isn’t enough hard work, you won’t last for long.

Flex Lewis stated, “The work ethic on one hand is there and the potential of genetics is in the other, and potential and genetics will get you to a certain level but work ethic will always beat that.
