Mass Monster, Dorian Yates, who has dominated the fitness world with his 6 Olympia titles has recently taken a moment to look back at his applaudable win in the German Grand Prix 1996. However, it was not only the first win he had in that year, he lifted the Sandow trophy as well. After the Olympia win, the bodybuilding icon started gearing up hard for the Grand Prix.
Yates, who is often hailed for his monstrous back, revealed his fitness approach with the help of which he could accomplish his major objective of gaining more weight for the sake of the Grand Prix. He ramped up the intake of his carbs to put more weight.

In a recent Instagram post, Yates posted a carousel of many of his on-stage pics that showed him posing. Along with the post, he also wrote a long caption, explaining the reason for his flat body. Talking about his lean body, he said, “I was a bit flat since I overdid my diet.” Revealing why was it so, he continued, “I knew that the IFBB would introduce drug testing for diuretics this year as they were concerned that there’d been a few deaths unfortunately in the professional ranks, due to this.”

He revealed how the abuse of diuretics, which aid weight loss, had led to the shocking deaths of some bodybuilders. Yates knew that this test would be conducted and because of this, he was hell-bent on coming in as lean as ever.
Yates further said he wanted to keep his body in shape for the Grand Prix competition despite winning the Olympia. Talking about his diet to improve his body, the legend wrote that he increased his carb intake to over 1000g per day for the next few days, which helped his body gain an extra 6-7lbs.

This is not the first time he recalled his commendable victory after so many years. Recently, he shared a heartfelt note reminiscing his 4th Olympia victory. Not only this, he also revealed the secret behind his monstrous back at that time.

Recalling the year 1995 when his massive back had made the fitness world go crazy over it, he wrote in a long caption- “I like this shot in particular, it shows just how far the traps go down the back and why it is so important to shrug up and backwards in one motion.”, Complimenting the efforts that he put to this huge back he wrote further in the caption.

Later, Mr. Olympia went on to reveal what led him to attain the back, “Heavy dumbbell shrugs were the dominant exercise he preferred. They gave him the freedom to pull up and back.
