The Terminator star recently appeared in an interview for the Hollywood Reporter. However, as the reporter asked him a question about his past marriage life, the legendary superstar grabbed the limelight when he demanded an Academy Award for himself and his ex-wife.

While divorce can often lead to bitterness and estrangement, Schwarzenegger expressed his respect and affection for his ex-wife. He revealed that although he is very happy with his girlfriend Heather Milligan, Shriver and he are still good friends and are very close. “I love my wife”, he said. The former governor of California also revealed that despite the challenges, they have prioritized their children’s upbringing.
The seven-time Mr. Olympia highlighted the fact that the couple was committed to celebrating important milestones and festivals as a united family. “Even though we had this drama, we did Easter together, Mother’s Day together, the Christmases together, all birthdays — everything together,” Schwarzenegger said in the interview.

In a lighthearted manner, Schwarzenegger jokingly demands an “Oscar” for himself and Shriver, expressing immense pride in the way they have successfully raised their children despite their differences. “If there’s Oscars for how to handle divorce, Maria and I should get it for having the least amount of impact on the kids”, Arnold joked. Though the request is lighthearted, it serves as a reflection of their healthy bonding and understanding. However, the bodybuilding icon has some regrets as well.

Despite maintaining good terms after their divorce, Schwarzenegger expressed that separating from Shriver was the biggest mistake of his life. In the upcoming documentary, titled “Arnold”, Schwarzenegger bravely opens up about his regret over the decision to divorce Maria Shriver. “It was very tough on my marriage, on my relationship with the kids. I have caused enough pain for my family.”, he said in the trailer.
