Now, the veteran bodybuilder opened up about his younger days as a bodybuilder in a podcast for Generation Iron Fitness & Bodybuilding Network. He revealed yet another incident where he outperformed the 7x Mr. Olympia champion.

The Chemist had earned immense bodybuilding knowledge over several decades of his association with the sport. Despite being retired four decades ago, the veteran bodybuilder shares the philosophy and techniques involved in the sport through his social media posts and podcasts.
The 3x Mr. Olympia joined Mike O’Hearn to discuss the various aspects of bodybuilding and spilled beans of his prime on The Mike O’Hearn Show. While discussing heavy duties needed for muscle growth, Zane confessed that he could never train heavy like Mike O’Hearn after witnessing the latter’s 315 lbs feats.
Although The Chemist agreed that he was a good squatter. He recollected an incident from his training session with Arnold Schwarzenegger back when they were competing, Zane said, “I did 10 reps with 405 and he did 8.” This made the hosts burst into laughter after witnessing Zane’s strong memory. And Zane’s victory once left Schwarzenegger anguished.

The 1968 Mr. Universe event has a place in the bodybuilding books as it was one of the rarest times when Schwarzenegger faced defeat. Frank Zane won that year’s event as he was at peak conditioning.

While Zane considered Arnie a budding bodybuilder, the 7x Mr. Olympia was in utter disbelief. “I just got beat by a chicken with 17-inch arms,” were Arnie’s comments about Zane’s physique from the competition. Though the comments were not in good taste, the duo soon became good friends.
The Golden era of bodybuilding had witnessed physiques that appeared to be sculpted as Greek God statutes. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane from this era still hold a strong place in the hearts of bodybuilding fans.
